I can’t stop thinking about the middle of Proverbs 4, “A Father’s Wise Instruction”:
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,
and whatever you get, get insight.
Leading up to this line, the father begs his sons to pay attention to what he’s about to say. After this line, the father implores his sons to appreciate wisdom and avoid wickedness.
The first time I read it, I got angry at its simplicity. “Get wisdom”? That’s it? That’s your special advice? “Get insight”? That’s the enduring message you’re going to leave your kids? How, though? How do I get wisdom and insight?
Imagine paying VIP tickets for an entrepreneur conference. You grab your front-row seat and pull out your notebook ahead of the keynote, The Secret to Financial Independence. Then all the speaker says is:
The beginning of wealth is this: Get wealth,
and whatever you get, get cash.
How do I get wealth? How do I build cash flow?
Countless books, courses, podcasts, and events answer those how questions.
“How to Win With AI in 2026.”
“How to Use Claude Fable To Build Your Own Software Factory to Print Cash.”
“How to Automate a Faceless YouTube Channel Using AI.”
“Father of AI Tells Developers How to Stay Relevant Before It’s Too Late.”
We’re a generation addicted to implementation details, to click-worthy headlines that promise the world, yet deliver nothing more than a 20-point hollow listicle divided by a banner ad. We’ve been running on the sugar high of a thousand Hows for so long that we forgot the sustenance of a few Whats.
Maybe that father was onto something after all.
His kids didn’t need a list to chaperone them from point A to point B. They were probably resourceful enough to get those things and smart enough to keep them. A nudge was all they needed, a reason to keep their gaze on the narrow path ahead of them and avoid the temptations in the periphery.
Wisdom.
Insight.
Wealth.
Cash.
Peace.
Gratitude.
Connection.
Autonomous Software Factory.
All worthy pursuits.
But let me suggest just one How, one timeless method that I believe will serve you.
Whatever you pursue, pursue it with simplicity.
